Chapter Six

Everly

“What is this?” she asked as she entered the dining room. Her smile was tentative and sweet. Confused.

White fairy lights were strung around all four walls, and something smooth and jazzy was playing in the background.

“It’s our wedding night,” Zane said softly. He came up behind her, a comforting presence at her back. Powerful, warm hands kneaded her shoulders and soothed away her tension.

“You made dinner?”

“I get one of those box delivery services. I think tonight is grilled salmon, broccoli, and brown rice.”

It sounded delicious. But what sounded even better was having her wedding night. Everly turned so she could face him and wind her arms around his shoulders.

“I don’t think I’m ready for food,” she said softly. Using her lips, she nuzzled against the firm line of his jaw. Her body pressed against him and Everly felt the tightening of her nipples.

They’d known each other for weeks now. Had been flirting. Had even shared a kiss on that long-ago night at the Lusty Leopard. Everly was done waiting.

She wanted her husband to make love to her.

She took his hand and pressed his fingers into her skin until it covered her breast. “Your hands are just the right size,” she commented, as she gazed up at him with hooded eyes.

His beautiful grey eyes darkened. Grew stormy with what she hoped was desire. His fingers held still, supporting the top of her breast while his thumb pressed in and up. The corner of one nail caught against her skin, and she arched deeper into his caress.

Their eyes met, breaths coming slower. A little heavier as desire arced between them. A heaviness Everly had never experienced grew low in her belly and her mouth opened on a slight puff of air.

Slowly but deliberately his thumb moved up. Their gaze never broke as he took her invitation and welcomed it.

Everly reached up, suddenly needing his kiss like she needed her next breath. Desperately.

Knowledge and awareness pulsed between them. His hand was slow, heat pressing into her delicate skin through her dress. Through her bra.

He lifted his eyebrows as if to say, “Are you sure?”

She nipped his chin. “I’ve never been more sure in my entire life,” she assured him.

His hand tightened, massaging sensitive flesh. “You want this.”

Everly wasn’t sure if he was asking or telling her, but she nodded in response. “Please, Zane. Don’t make me wait. Don’t make me beg.”

“Never beg, Ev. I want you too much for that.” His eyes crinkled a little as he smiled at her. “I just want to make sure you’re as ready for me as I am for you.”

“Always,” she vowed, not sure if she fully understood what that meant or not. On the one hand, she wanted Zane to hurry to the finish line. But on the other, this delicious slowness was addictive.

Almost all of their contact was between Zane’s hand and Everly’s breast. There was a gentle touch of his fingertips and the heat of his palm.

“Your nipples are waiting for me, aren’t they?” She nodded.
